Cozy read spots

I’m one of those readers who likes to have everything neat, clean and tidy around me before I can snuggle up into a ball and enjoy my current read.

If there is chaos around me, I just can’t concentrate. Is it just me, or is there something uniquely satisfying about rewarding yourself with a couple of chapters on a sunny afternoon, or late evening when all is quiet in the house? All the chores are done. No screaming kids (or in my case, barking dogs) and there is nothing pressing that needs my attention.

Lately, I’ve been neglecting my reading A LOT, but since I’ve been sick coming into the Christmas period, I’ve been forced to slow down and smell the roses (well, I will do that once my sense of smell returns!) and I’ve been catching up on my TBR list, which inevitably is a mile long.

My current cozy reading spot is my back yard. We live on a farm here in Western Australia and it looks out onto acres of land with nothing but trees and birds and the neighbor’s friendly chickens pop by to say hello and annoy my dogs. It’s my happy place.

I would love to show you the snuggly hammock out in the sun, or the window seat looking out onto a fabulous orchid or the first snow of the year, but alas, I just have my comfy couch when all else fails, and it is the best couch in the world. Sometimes when I’m out in the world and it all gets too much, I think about my couch and how good it’s going to feel when I’m there again, snuggling with my dogs and my cup of tea and my kindle.

I literally sit for probably an hour on a nighttime, so it’s my one indulgence and I am committing myself to more reading time in 2023, just so I can sit on the couch more! How’s that for #2023goals? LOL

What are some of your cozy reading spots and can you read with chaos going on, or do you need peace and quiet?
